Treatment for Hairy Heel Warts (HHW)Print Article (Open or save and then print)
1) Trimming: severely affected animals should have their feet trimmed and a tetracyline wrap applied for 2 days then removed.
2) Rinsing: affected feet can be rinsed off, then sprayed with and antibiotic solution a) tetracyline: dissolve one 102.4 gm package into 1 gallon of distilled water. Spray onto lesion with a hand sprayer once a day for 5 days, then every other day the next 2 weeks. b) lincomix: dissolve one 40 gram package into 2 qts water. Treat once a day for 5 days.
3) Foot baths: Treat at least twice a week, every day is better. Maximum of 250 cow passages per solution life. a) lincomix : 40 gm pkg into 40 gallons of water.
b) tetracyline: use "324" powder 1 scoop per 15 gallon of water.
c) Formaldehyde: 1gal of 37% into 20 gallons of water, 1st week. Can use 1 gal into 40 gal of water after lesions controlled. change every 300 - 500 cows.
